At April Dace Jewellery, transforming sentimental pieces into new treasures is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work. Recently, I had the pleasure of remodelling a wedding ring for Joe, using precious gold that had been passed down from grandparents. This project was a beautiful example of how repurposing cherished materials can create something both meaningful and timeless.
From Heirloom to Modern Elegance
Joe’s project involved reworking old gold that had been passed down from Emily and Joe’s family (see image below). The result? A stunning 5mm wide 9ct yellow gold wedding ring with a brushed finish and polished bevelled edge. This design beautifully combines tradition with modernity, creating a piece that feels both classic and contemporary.

The ring features a unique contrast between the polished interior and the brushed texture on the central band. The bevel edges are elegantly polished, catching the light in a way that adds a subtle yet striking detail. Inside the band, a hidden emerald provides a personal touch, adding a layer of sentimentality that makes the ring even more special.
Simplicity with Sophistication
One of the reasons I loved working on this commission is the balance it strikes between simplicity and sophistication. This ring proves that you don’t need an elaborate design to create something outstanding. The clean lines and understated elegance of the brushed finish ensure that the ring remains timeless while the polished edges add a crisp contrast that catches the eye.
Simplicity is at the heart of my design philosophy. I believe that elegance often lies in the details that don’t overwhelm the senses. Joe’s ring exemplifies this approach perfectly. It’s a piece that stands out for its quiet beauty and thoughtful design rather than flashy details.
The Beauty of Custom Remodelling
Custom remodelling is all about honouring the past while creating something that fits your personal style. Joe’s remodelled wedding ring is a testament to how heirloom materials can be reimagined into something new, yet deeply meaningful. It’s a great example of how even the most simple designs can have a profound impact when executed with care and attention.
If you’re inspired by this project or have sentimental jewellery you’d like to transform, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re looking for a subtle redesign or a completely new piece, I can help you create something that reflects your unique story and style.
